(Washington, DC) – The Log Cabin Republicans issued the following statement calling for passage of the pro-business Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA):

"Our nation's economy depends on having the most qualified and dedicated workers. But discrimination in employment, including being fired, denied a promotion, or harassed for being gay, is not only unfair, it is destructive to our workforce and our economy," stated Log Cabin Republicans National Chairman, Terry W. Hamilton.

"Beyond the obvious need to ensure equality under the law for gay and lesbian Americans, we call on the Senate to recognize the important pro-business implications in passing this legislation. ENDA will strengthen our economy and preserve vital American jobs," continued Hamilton.

ENDA would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of federal employment discrimination protections. Current federal law prohibits employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age, and disability.

"Let's be clear  – if you support keeping good, high-paying jobs that keep America at the forefront of innovation and technology and competitive in this global economy, then supporting ENDA is vital," added Log Cabin Republicans Spokesperson Charles T. Moran.

"As Republicans, we believe that one should be judged by the quality of their work and the content of their character. Discrimination is not a Republican virtue, and we urge all Republicans in the Senate to cast their vote for ENDA. ENDA is reflective of policies already in place by the vast majority of Fortune 500 companies in America, as well as supported by many small-businesses which form the backbone of the American economy," continued Moran.
