(Washington, DC) – Following the White House reception in honor of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, Log Cabin Republicans - the nation's oldest and largest conservative gay advocacy organization, issued the following statement:

"President Obama's comments smacks of a lack of authenticity and true understanding of the issues that face our community and the importance to the safety of the nation and the free exercise of the rights so many have fought for throughout America's history," states Terry Hamilton, Chairman of the Board of Log Cabin Republicans.

"While the President continues to recollect to the days of the Stonewall Riots 40 years ago, gay Americans are still being denied the most basic protections and recognition for our place and contributions to society. Under his Administration's watch and by the direct order of his appointees, mission-critical gays and lesbians are still being kicked out of the military, families are being torn apart due to unjust immigration laws and life-long partners are still not being recognized in family planning matters."

Log Cabin Republicans spokesperson, Charles T. Moran makes the following statement:

"It is pretty entertaining to watch the President throw himself a 'Pride Party' after taking a pass on acting upon several issues that would have fulfilled his promises to our Community. I'm not quite sure what he's actually proud of.

"Hollow words and false promises do not define a legacy or an Administration - only actions and follow-through. This Administration has had several opportunities to show its commitment to the gay community and make life better for millions of Americans. Hosting this 'sideshow' reception only rubs salt in the wounds of so many that actually believed his message of 'hope and change,'" states Moran.
