(Washington, DC) – On Monday, Bob Kabel, former Log Cabin Republicans National Board Chairman and current National Board Member, was elected Chair of the District of Columbia Republican Party. Log Cabin congratulates Kabel on his momentous election, as the first openly gay Chairman of a Republican state party.

"Bob Kabel has been a leading voice for inclusion in the Republican Party. His election as Chairman of the DC GOP is a tremendous victory for fair-minded Republicans everywhere and particularly for the citizens of the District of Columbia," said Log Cabin President Patrick Guerriero.

Kabel has made it clear that, "as the only urban state GOP in the nation, we will stand on our DC party platform and proudly build the most inclusive Republican Party in America."

Chairman Kabel has a long history in Republican politics, including serving as Legislative Director to Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) and as an appointee in the Reagan administration. "We here in the District are privileged to have Bob Kabel as our Chairman. Chairman Kabel won on a platform of building and expanding the DC Republican Party and bringing two-party politics to the District," said Chris Barron, Log Cabin Political Director and the Ward 2 Chair for the DC Republican Party.

Log Cabin Republicans look forward to working with Chairman Kabel and the DC Republican Party to build a strong, inclusive, and successful Republican Party in the District of Columbia.
