Washington, D.C. - Today, friends, family, and dignitaries gather at Washington National Cathedral to honor the life of former President George H. W. Bush.

Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Jerri Ann Henry issued the following statement:

"Today mourners from around the globe are gathered in Washington D.C. to commemorate the life of our 41st President, George H. W. Bush. President Bush has lead a long and fruitful life in dedicated service to his family and his country. He is a war hero, a two-term congressman, an Ambassador to both the United Nations and China, a Chair of the Republican National Committee, CIA director, Vice President and President. But most memorable to us here at Log Cabin Republicans has been his friendship and lasting legacy of support.

"During his time in the Oval Office, President Bush signed into law the Hate Crimes Statistics Act, the first law to recognize and name gay, lesbian and bisexual people. While we didn't always agree on every policy point, the president's leadership and willingness to engage on key issues, both during his presidency and after, serve as an example to future generations.

"Log Cabin Republicans offers our condolences and thanks to the entire Bush family. You are each in our prayers.

"We are thankful to President Bush for the years of service to this country and to our shared principles. The inspiration of this president is unparalleled and it is our hope we, and future leaders, live up to the example set. Mr. President, thank you for your service and may you rest in peace."
