Montana GOP Governor Supports Protections for Gays

Governor Marc Racicot (R-Montana) said yesterday that all Montanans, "including homosexuals, should be protected against hate crimes," saying "he would support protection of gays under state hate crime" legislation. Racicot, whose comments came in the wake of the death of a U of WY student and apparent victim of an anti-gay hate crime: "Any time there's a crime like this, there ought to be a certain moral repudiation of that by society at large." Pride Montana directpr Sandy Hale: "We're deeply indebted to him. ...I hope he can be the bold leader within the Republican Party"
