Washington, D.C. - Statement by Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo on the results of the midterm elections:

Election night was a terrific night to be a Republican, and an especially good night to be a Log Cabin Republican. Fully 10 of our slate of 16 endorsed candidates were victorious in their bids for federal office - Senator Collins, Congressmen Coffman, Dent, Gibson, Hanna, and LoBiondo, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, and Congressmen-elect Curbelo, Dold, and Katko. We look forward to welcoming them to the 114th Congress as common-sense conservative allies who we were proud to support in their respective campaigns.

The massive wins by Log Cabin Republicans at the ballot box is bittersweet, however, as we must wait for another day to elect the first openly gay Republican to the House of Representatives. Both Carl DeMaio and Richard Tisei have much to be proud of despite the outcome of their races: No two candidates faced more of a challenge this cycle, deluged with a barrage of attacks from outliers in the GOP obsessed with an anti-gay agenda and vitriolic Democrats who would stop at nothing to maintain the identity politics status quo that keeps them in power. Despite their losses, one thing is certain: Mr. DeMaio and Mr. Tisei made history in their respective campaigns, and Log Cabin Republicans salutes their valiant efforts.

Now, Log Cabin Republicans looks ahead to the future, and by all accounts it looks incredibly bright: a Congress with more pro-equality members of the GOP conference than ever before.
