New Republican Majority Can't Lose Focus on Fiscal Responsibility in 112th Congress

(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans issued the following statement:

"The American people have given Republicans in congress a mandate to prove that we truly are the party of fiscal responsibility and economic growth. Let's not waste this opportunity by indulging in wasteful spending or divisive and distracting social agendas," said R. Clarke Cooper, Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans. "Log Cabin Republicans call upon Congress to move swiftly to pass a budget which returns government spending to 2008 levels or below. Cutting more than $100 billion from the federal budget will require discipline, focus and hard work. If Congress doesn't address the estimated $2.6 trillion budget deficit first and foremost, it risks losing credibility with the electorate who voted for real fiscal change. President Obama made it clear in his state of the union address that his administration is moving full speed ahead on massive new spending initiatives to fulfill promises to liberal special interests. Politics as usual, whether pork-barrel projects or Congressman Jim Jordan's pandering to social conservatives, will only embolden Democrats and undermine the important work Americans sent Republicans to Washington to do."
