(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans applaud Speaker John Boehner and the Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives for their leadership in voting to reinstate the successful Washington, D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program.

"Every parent should be able to send their children to a school where they can succeed," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "Too many schools are failing to provide a safe and effective learning environment for our nation's students. The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, by providing low-income students in the nation's capital with the opportunity to receive a scholarship to attend a private school of their parents' choice, is a powerful tool to create greater accountability through competition. This successful program should not be allowed to end because of special interest fear-mongering. Whether the problem is tragically low standards of education or the violence of bullying and harassment, something has to change in America's schools. Log Cabin Republicans call upon the Senate to pass the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results (SOAR) Act so that these parents can give their children every opportunity they deserve."
