Washington, D.C.  – Today Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) Interim Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo released a statement supporting Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady for standing firm on his views on same-sex marriage. Chairman Brady recently publicly supported a proposal being considered by state legislators to make Illinois the tenth state to allow same-sex marriages. After coming under fire by four GOP committee members Chairman Brady affirmed he was "not backing down" on the issue.

The following is a response from the LCR Interim Executive Director, Gregory T. Angelo:

"Chairman Brady is showing great courage by advocating for something he believes in. Dramatic calls for his resignation by social conservatives amount to little more than histrionics from extremists who know that civil marriage for committed gay and lesbian couples in the "Land of Lincoln" is inevitable. We applaud Chairman Brady for standing firm on the right side of history and encourage other Republicans to join him. Only when our party understands that inclusion wins over division, will Republicans once again be the kind of "big tent" party that focuses on the issues that unite rather than divide us, like jobs, taxes, and limited government."
